Hey everyone!
This week we have 3 graphics and 1 photo assignment to give out to accompany articles in our printed issue! Grab one and show off your artwork to your friends on campus!
The photo needed this week is:
Event: Vigil for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirited people
When/Where: Tuesday, February 14th at 6pm at Cabot Square. Event info
Note: Be sure to ask consent if taking any photos that clearly focus on one person - to stay respectful, consider focusing on signs, drums, and the event’s main speakers
Articles this week needing graphics are:
Title: Concordia’s Book Club
Description: An light-hearted interview with the head of Concordia’s book club, talking about the joy of reading and what it takes to run a successful book club!
Suggestion: A group of friends sitting reading together, maybe in a blue ballpoint-pen and paper style, with lots of fun texture and paper collaged in the background. Have fun with it!
Title: 2023 Grammys Results
Description: An opinion article about the results of the latest Grammys.
Suggestion: Portraits of some of the winners from the Grammys this year (Lizzo, Harry Styles, Beyonce, Doja Cat, etc!), preferably with Lizzo front and center!
Title: Concordia’s Response to the Earthquakes in Turkey
Description: Interviews with students that have been affected by the extremely deadly earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6th, and documenting the University’s response.
Suggestion: This is a really terrible disaster that is still ongoing, so first and foremost please remember to be respectful and intentional about your graphic. If you or someone close to you has been affected by the earthquake, I would encourage you to follow your own interpretation to represent it. Otherwise, I would make the focus of this graphic the responders and rescuers in high-vis and medical gear standing together.
Thanks so much for reading, everyone! If you’d like to claim a photo pitch, please email Catherine at photo@theconcordian.com! For graphics, email Carleen at graphics@theconcordian.com! It’s first come first serve, so let us know quickly!
Have a great week,
Catherine and Carleen
