THREE Graphics Needed for Digital Issue
Draw something to go alongside these thrilling stories!
Hi everyone,
I hope you’ve had a great week, the warm weather is both really concerning and feels really great! At the Concordian, we’ve got three articles this week needing graphics to accompany them, and we’d love to feature your artwork! If you’d like to claim a graphic, reach out to me (Carleen) at graphics@theconcordian.com (or feel free to reach out about anything else, too!)
All the graphics below are due back Sunday, February 4th at noon.
Title: “Meaningless Music” and the Effects of Capitalism on Music
Description: Following Yasiin Bey’s recent comments on Drake’s music being consumerist and “compatible with shopping”, our Music Editor discusses how the music industry is deeply affiliated with, and affected by, capitalistic forces.
Suggestion: Maybe some popular pop-music figures, shiny and smiling creepily, with stickers on their faces saying things like “Has Conventionally Accepted Political Views!”, “Controlled By My Label!”, “You Can’t Dislike Me!”
Title: The Problem with “Both-Sides” Journalism
Description: This contributor article explores the problems with giving both sides equal weight and coverage in journalism. It focuses on false equivalencies and the suppression of essential and marginalized voices — how bothsidesism often works to depoliticize and trivialize the struggles of the oppressed.
Suggestion: This could go a few directions — something that focuses either on journalistic responsibility, false neutrality, or advocacy work in journalism — maybe marginalized peoples’ voice bubbles being pushed to the back? (or suggest me something!)
Title: America’s 2024 Presidential Elections
Description: A contributor looks at the deepening radicalization of America’s Republicans, specifically discussing Project 25, which aims to create a conservative coalition ready to enact immediate and drastic changes once a Republican presidency begins.
Suggestion: A presidential podium looking domineering and scary — or maybe a poker table with chips reading “Arms Manufacturing”, “Colonial Ventures”, “Extraction Industries”, “Razing the Amazon” (or suggest me something!!)
That’s all for this week! If you’d like to draw for one of the articles above, be sure to shoot me an email at graphics@theconcordian.com. Otherwise, to be added to our list of graphics contributors, click here.
Thanks so much, everyone!
