News: Summer Of Infernos by Sakib Hossain
Canada has seen a record-setting wildfire season this year with about 922 wildfires across the country. Montreal, known for its vibrant summer festivals, faced an alarming transformation this season as wildfires engulfed the region and shrouded the city in smog.
Contributor Sakib Hossain spoke with Concordia University students across the country to understand how threats from wildfire and climate change are affecting not only their homes but also their futures too.
Arts: Concordia Fine Arts Student Exhibits At The AGO by Emma Bell
Concordia Studio Arts BFA student Mallory Lowe Mpoka has been featured in a group exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto titled "Re-Mixing African Photography." The exhibition runs until January 7, 2024, with free admission for Indigenous peoples, AGO members, Annual Passholders, and visitors aged 25 and under.
This week, our Arts and Culture Editor Emma Bell, dived into the exhibition and examined how Mpoka uses powerful images and vintage family photos to create a sense of heritage juxtaposed with loss.

Sports: Concordia Stingers Men’s Hockey In Italy Ahead Of 2023 Season by Matthew Piscina
Stingers in Italy. For the second consecutive year, the Concordia Stingers Men's hockey program ventured to Italy for a unique preseason experience, facing off against professional ice hockey teams.
Our assistant sports editor Matthew Piscina followed the Stingers European journey, starting with their practice game with Stadio Olimpico del Ghiaccio, and their games against Asiago HC. This international experience bodes well for the Stingers' upcoming season, as they return home with a strengthened roster and the potential to make a deep run in the 2023-2024 season, building on their previous quarter final appearance in the U Sports national championship.
