Social norms and undergraduate drinking: new Concordia study
Dr. Roisin M. O'Connor and the Young Adult and Alcohol Research Laboratory at Concordia University will begin a new study tracking the drinking habits of undergraduate students over the course of their respective degrees. Co-News Editor Hannah Tiongson spoke with students at Concordia to learn more about their experiences with drinking during their studies.

Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec fights the eroticization of nurses
Last week, the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) launched a social media campaign to challenge the sexualization of nurses during Halloween. “The eroticization of the profession is socially and professionally unacceptable,” stated Luc Mathieu, president of the OIIQ. “Nurses practice a scientific profession and their expertise must be better known and valued. It is time for perceptions to change.”

Nuit des sans-abri de Montréal comes back for its 33rd edition
Every fall, La Nuit des sans-abri is held to help raise awareness about individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the province. After two years of being held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year organizers of La Nuit des sans-abri faced unique challenges as the event returned to being held in-person.

New poll suggests Quebecers support voting system reform
A recent survey by Léger found that an overwhelming majority of adults aged 18 to 34 in Quebec support voting reform in the province. Co-News Editor Hannah Tiongson spoke to Concordia students to get their opinions and thoughts about the current electoral system.

Women’s access to health
On Oct. 19, the Réseau des Tables régionales de groupes de femmes du Québec held a demonstration at the Quebec Premier’s office in Montreal to raise awareness on issues facing women’s health services throughout the province. “After decades of neoliberal attacks on the health care system with a pandemic that continues to drag on, we feel that there are real problems of accessibility to healthcare,” said Audrey Gosselin Pellerin, a feminist political organizer and member of the Réseau.

CSU by-elections postponed to late November
On Wednesday Oct. 26, the Concordia Student Union approved a motion to postpone the upcoming CSU by-elections and appointed Haya Bitar as Internal Affairs Coordinator of the CSU at the third regular council meeting (RCM) of the fall semester.

Anti-Black Racism Task force and apology
On Friday Oct. 28, 2022, Concordia’s President and Vice Chancellor Graham Carr formally apologized on behalf of the University for mishandling the 1969 Black Student Protests. The protests, also known as the Sir George Williams Affair, saw over 200 hundred students occupy the ninth floor of the Henry F. Hall building in response to multiple allegations of systemic racism at Sir George Williams University. It remains the largest student occupation in Canadian history.
