News Section pitches:
Bill 74 (can be written in French or English)
Word count: 500
Bill 74 is “an Act to improve the regulatory scheme governing international students,” which will reduce the number of international students in Quebec. The article would be a follow-up of this article: https://theconcordian.com/2024/11/quebec-government-introduces-new-bill-to-reduce-the-number-of-international-students-in-the-province/. The focus would be on the public hearings that took place on Nov. 5-6, as well as reactions from various political parties and universities. During the hearings, all universities in Quebec asked to be exempt from the bill and/or objected to it. I can help the contributor contact the different universities and political parties/MNAs who participated in the public hearings to have their takes on the bill and the need for international students in Quebec.
CSU Byelections
Word count: 500-600
The CSU elections are next week, with the likely result of all fee levies being rejected. In that context, what are the issues with the current fee levy system (for example, the fact that it doesn't follow inflation)? But also, there are a lot of students who are against fee levies in general, both in terms of its system, but also that they don't want to pay extra in tuition fees. Who won the byelections? A look into the polling process. Were there any delays? Any issues?
Interviews with at least two clubs that campaigned and CSU’s Chief Electoral Officer. It would also be important to interview a student with that perspective.

Office of Sustainability Tree Planting Project

The Office of sustainability has been planting 1,400 trees around the Loyola Campus since September 23 for the Campus Master Plan and for Campus Certification. The project is finalizing on Monday Nov. 18. Required interviews with Urban Agriculture & Biodiversity Coordinator Jackie Martin, project manager and Biology professor.
