Caricatured and erased: Indigenous voices on racial slurs in sports team names:
Multiple teams have recently distanced themselves from racist names, opting for more inclusive labels instead. These include varsity teams from McGill and Simon Fraser University.
Indigenous students shared their opinions on the matter and said that racist names normalize the use of racist terms and gestures.
Changing team names is only a first step, and there still is a lot to do to make sports inclusive.
