Caricatured and erased: Indigenous voices on racial slurs in sports team names:
Multiple sports teams have recently distanced themselves from racist names and changed them to more inclusive names. This includes McGill and Simon Fraser University.
Indigenous students shared their opinions on the matter and agreed that these racist names normalize the use of racist terms and gestures.
However, changing team names is only a first step and there still is a lot to do to make sports inclusive.
Concordia Stingers men’s soccer team defeats McGill Redbirds 2-1:
Stingers’ forward Andrew Foote scored his first two goals of the season in this challenging game against McGill.
The Redbirds scored their only goal late in the first half, and the Stingers’ defence shone in the second half, keeping it scoreless as they took the 2-1 win.
Patience was key for Concordia Stingers in the 2-1 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues:
In what could’ve easily been a frustrating game for the Stingers, they came out stronger for the third period and played a grittier style of hockey.
This allowed forward Jessymaude Drapeau to pot two goals and earn her team the 2-1 victory over the Varsity Blues.
