Hi Concordians!
I hope your October is wrapping up nicely & that you’re all staying safe, warm, and rested as the weather gets colder. Our upcoming print issue needs some talented artists to whip up some graphics to accompany articles, this week there are FOUR of them! If any of the prompts below interest you, please shoot me (Carleen) and email asap at graphics@theconcordian.com. Otherwise, reach out anytime to ask questions, chat, or suggest graphics/art to feature!
All the graphics below are due back Sunday, October 29th at noon.
Title: Talkin’ Death Metal
Description: A deep dive into the history of the death metal genre, its evolution, and its fascination with death.
Suggestion: A death metal musician (tattoos! long hair! chains!) staring into a skull Hamlet-like, with dramatic lighting. Or suggest me something!
Title: Taylor Swift Eras Tour Movie (ONLINE)
Description: A review of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie which hit theatres last week, featuring opinions and reviews from Concordia students.
Suggestion: Swifties in line at the move theatre, weighed down by their friendship bracelets and super excited. Some young girls, but also men, queer folks, and boomers (everyone’s a Swiftie now!)
Title: Experiences of Wartime in Lebanon
Description: To address the violence being committed against the Gaza Strip currently, our Assistant Opinions editor is writing about her personal experience of the Israel-Lebanon war in 2006.
Suggestion: She suggests a depiction of SWANA (Southwest Asia + North Africa) and doves, as a representation of peace. I’m very happy to facilitate dialogue for this graphic, we can all chat to find something that works.
Title: Open letter to the Jewish community
Description: Our Opinions editor is writing about the state of Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people, from her standpoint as a Jewish woman. She calls on other Jewish community members to seek education and viewpoints from non-Western sources to understand the bloodshed.
Suggestion: She suggests drawing from protest signs used already by Jewish organizations/activists in recent protests (possibly “Jews for Palestine”), but is happy to talk it through.
There are some heavy topics in the mix this time, and I especially encourage people with similar experiences to our Editors to reach out with their own suggestions and directions if interested — otherwise, we’re all very happy to work together to make sure everyone feels informed & respected. If you’re interested in claiming a graphic, or have any questions, reach out to me at graphics@theconcordian.com.
Thanks so much, everyone. Please take care of yourselves!
